Art in the Heart of Community

Art in the Heart of Community, created by Jutro and Živi Atelje DK, uses food as a medium of belonging. Živi Atelje DK is an independent, interdisciplinary, self-organised collective whose Women2Women initiative brings together women from diverse backgrounds who speak different languages and who have made Croatia their home. Jutro works at the intersection of contemporary art, heritage and human rights. 

Reflecting on how communities receive newcomers, the project invited neighbours, recent arrivals and passers-by to connect through shared meals and the exchange of recipes. Across Zagreb, a series of billboards showed dishes co-created with participants, paired with slogans such as 'New friends, new tastes' and 'Breaking borders with food'.
