Fingerprint Labyrinth
The Fingerprint Labyrinth is being created by an artist-activist collective from the London group of the Iona Community, a dispersed community of people working for peace and justice which includes individuals from various backgrounds, experiences of exclusion, and ancestries: poet Kaz Reeves, visual artist Meg Wroe, composer Patricia Livingstone, and activist Catriona Robertson.
Fingerprints have been a part of human expression since prehistoric cave art. In contemporary Europe, police, prison officers, and removal centre officials collect fingerprints to identify individuals.
The labyrinth is an ancient form that is drawn on the ground, inviting participants to follow a path to the center, pause for reflection, and then make their way back to the outside. This act encourages mindful movement.
Historically, music has served as a means of expressing dissent, especially during challenging times. To accompany participants as they move and reflect on the right to protest in 2025, a musical soundscape has been composed.
Poetry – in different forms – will open up the imagination, a space for change. Participants will have the opportunity to leave their own fingerprints on the labyrinth as an act of solidarity.
The Fingerprint Labyrinth will travel to different groups and venues across the UK and continental Europe. Stories from individuals who participate in protests and those who choose to hold back will be welcomed.
Follow the labyrinth's journey on Instagram and let the collective know through ArtRightsTruth if you are interested in hosting an event to Protect the Protest.
