The Commons Guard: Visualizing Civil Society's Role in Uganda.

”The Commons Guard" is a visual arts project by KQ Hub Africa that reclaims and reshapes the narrative around civil society in Uganda. Amid increasing government restrictions, this project underscores the essential role of civil society as a protector of communal rights and freedoms. Through a series of large-scale murals, digital art installations, and community workshops, the project invites Ugandans to engage in dialogue on human rights, democracy, and civic resilience. This initiative seeks to counteract misperceptions by depicting civil society as a "guard" of the commons, emphasizing its contributions to freedom of expression, gender equality, and human rights in Uganda. It also envisions a more inclusive, open society through accessible visual storytelling.
