Trust the Protest Zine

ShiftSlow is a degrowth-driven collective of artists, activists, and facilitators who use participatory community art projects to tell their stories and spark critical dialogue on pressing social and political issues.

Trust the Protest is a documentary and a series of collaboratively created zines that denounces the repression of peaceful protests while exploring ways forward. The project creates a resource for dialogue centred on the question: ‘what to do then?’

Using prompts and conversations with protestors in Portugal, Belgium, and Italy, the collective interviewed protest participants and activists to collect evidence and insights on:

  • The lack of accountability for excessive violence by law enforcement.

  • Ways to counter harmful representations and narratives about protestors.

  • Envisioning care before, during, and after protests.

Through this work, ShiftSlow aims to bridge gaps between protestors and the broader public, sparking dialogue that extends beyond the streets.
